Multi value Parameter

Hi,

In my report i have a multi valued parameter, when i view my report in the Web application with Report Viewer, The multi valued parameter is displaying in light color.Can we able to change this.

Thanks in advance

Mahima,

You can go to your Reporting Service\ReportManager\Style directory, this is were your "CSS" reporting service stylesheets are located. I believe the file you looking for is RSWebParts.css

Multi site using SQL Express 2005

Hi,
I am writing Stock inventory and POS application.
POS will be used at multiple branches to collect sales, whereby Stock Inventory will be used in HQ for product info maintenance, stock in and etc.

I need to send all of the branch sales records back to HQ and send updated product info such as cost to branches everyday (could be multiple times per day).

I am thinking to use SQL Server Express 2005 at branches and SQL Server 2005 standard at HQ.

Do you think it is workable? What is the mechanism I can use to "transfer" these data?

Please advice.

Thank youHi,

compared to the MSDE, SQL Server 2005 Express only supports subscriptions for data. SSE can no longer by used as a publisher for changed data. SO you will have to either use another edition of SQL Server for transfering the updated data / use MSDE / create your own logic to tranfer the data from the branches to the HQ. Product info can be replicated to the branches using replication, as they can (as already mentioned above) act as subscribers.

Multi connection problem

Hi all,
In my accounting application if one user tries to execute a long report that
my take several minutes, the other users who are entering invoices almost
hang, and the process of enter products into the invoices or the saving the
invoices slow down significantly.
I'm using VC++ 2003, ODBC, SQL 2000 Ent.
Any body know how to overcome this problem.
Thanks in advance.You could try running the report query inside a transaction with READ
UNCOMMITTED isolation level.
The next time the report runs, take a look at the locks in the database. If
there are a lot of locks, running the report under READ UNCOMMITTED should
help.

restore a backup of the production db with a different name on a nightly
basis. Data is a day old but that's usually OK for reporting. If you mark th
e
reporting db read-only it will speed up those reports too.

Multi company Application

I'm developing an application that needs to handle several companies data one at a time.

I have a database called ROOT with the common tables like companies, users, etc. and all the stored procedures that I need.

Then I have a unique database per company containing all their info.

How can I apply the stored procedures that I have on database ROOT to the tables on each company's databases ?

The TSQL USE command do not accept variables.

Thanks for your help,
MOsheOoh. I'd use one database and then put a company ID on everything. Other than that, I think you would have to use dynamic SQL for everything and use full object names database.owner.object. That would get to be a real pain. It'll also wreak havoc with permissisons since the execute permissions for the stored procedure won't allow you to access those objects unless the user has permissisons on the underlying objects themselves. Unless you're bound to multiple databases, I'd change that.|||Select * From [DataBaseName].[dbo].[TableName]sql

Multi access in SQL Server

Hello,

I am working on an Access VBA application, working in client/server
mode, with a shared SQL Server base.

I have to INSERT some data in the base, and the know what is the ID
that SQL Server associated with my data in the table. So I need to do
the following

INSERT data INTO TABLE
SELECT MAX ID FROM TABLE (to get the ID)

but since I am working in client/server, if some DATA has been inserted
by another client after my INSERT, then MAX ID is not the convenient
ID of my data ...

Is there a way for me to get the ID when I do the INSERT, or to
lock/unlock the table before the INSERT and after the SELECT ?

Thank you for any hint about that.

It sounds like your table has the IDENTITY property. In such case, use
the function scope_identity() to retrieve last generated ID value.

MSXML6.CAB

Hi,

I am currently using msxml4.dll as part of my web application, but my project manager requested that I update to MSXML6. That makes sense, but I cannot find a corresponding msxml6.cab file that I can download and distribute. The only thing that I web search turned up is MSXML6 SP1 MSI, which does not help web installations and cross operating system compatibility.

1. Is there an msxml6.cab? If so how can I get it?

2. Is it legal to redistribute msxml6.cab, if it exists? If not, can I redistribute msxml4.cab?

Thanks in advance,

Don′t know if that is still valid, but did you see the Blog from the XMLTeam of MS ?

http://blogs.msdn.com/xmlteam/archive/2006/10/23/using-the-right-version-of-msxml-in-internet-explorer.aspx

"Hi Andrew, right now we don't support CAB installation for MSXML6. But we've heard from a bunch of folks now that this is an important scenario so we're looking at wrapping our existing installer. "

Maybe you can come along with the MSI package and can create a boostrapper ?

MSTDC and windows domain

Hi,
i have this scenario :
a have web application (NT4) that use a MSTDC service on my application
server (NT4) and DB and MSDTC on my cluster windows (2000/SQL2000)
The service MSTDC on application server and db server start with the same
domain administration account (administrator)
Now i have install a new domain windwos 2003 and a new cluster SQL2000/MSTDC
on 2 windows 2003 server and try to modify my application to point to new
windows 2003 cluster but when i try to test it a error appared :
Server: Msg 7391, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB'
was unable to begin a distributed transaction. OLE/DB provider returned
message: New transaction cannot enlist in the specified transaction
coordinator.
and found a kb article and make the modify adding a network service into
MSDTC service on cluster 2003 but the problem is not resoleved! :-(
This is because are 2 different domain and network service on 2003 isn't any
account on NT4 domain ?
If i try to trust a windows 2003 and NT4 domain i resolved it ?
The trust is only one solution or exist other solution ?
Thanks in advance.
make sure you are ussing the cluster version of DTC. On each node you
should have run comclust.exe.

Sorry but i'cant help you.

But i'm interrested for your java application.

which is the JVM which you use ?
Could you give me a java for ppc sample code 'HELLO WORLD!' ?

thank you,

Guiguix.|||Hi,
yhe java code is traditionally.

You write a "Hello world" java code and you copy it in the pocket pc.
The jvm is Creme. It support swing! But the needed java version is very old. I use the java 1.1.8 ;(

Bye :)|||There are two steps to establish a connection:

(1) loading the driver
If you want to use the JDBC-ODBC Bridge driver, the following code will load it.

Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");

(2) making the connection
If you are using the JDBC-ODBC Bridge driver, you can use

String url = "jdbc: odbc:ODBC_DataSourceName";
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(url, "myLogin", "myPassword");

Note that there is no space between jdbc: and odbc in url. If I remove it a sign will be shown in the code.|||And is this ok for pocket pc?
Wow!|||When you say "pocket PC", it is a laptop, right? I didn't try the connection on SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition, but it works for the other versions of SQL Server 2000.|||Pocket pc is a palm. Not Palm OS, but pocket pc.
MSSqlServer 2000 works on pc desktop but not on pocket pc.
Moreover the strings

----------------------
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");

String url = "jdbc: odbc://localhost:1433;databasename=AeMMobile";

connessione = DriverManager.getConnection(url, "sa", "sa");
-----------------------

don't work.

While with

----------------------

Class.forName("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver");

connessione = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost:1433;databasename=AeMMobile", "sa", "sa");

--------------------

on pc desktop is ok.
My problem is on pocket pc?
Do you know the solution?|||I do not know what the pocket PC is. I have a question. Since the SQL server is on the desktop which should be a Windows server, is your pocket PC connected to that server?|||The pocket pc is an hp 2002.
If you means that pocket pc is connected with replication data... yes.

The following messages have been happening on our system (Windows 2000 SP 4) while it was at SQL Server SP3 and AS SP2.

-Unexpected fatal error occurred. Attempting to restart server.

-mssqlserverolapservice service terminated unexpectedly. it has done this X times

We upgraded to SP4 on both SQL Server 2000 and AS. Same issue is still happening after the upgrade which was one of the recommendations.

What are we missing at this point?

|||

Let me make a wild guess here: You might have case of data corruption.

If you have kept your backups and you know how to restore your Analysis Services cubes here is what you can do:
Cleanup your data folder. For AS2000 that should be something like "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Analysis Services\Data". Delete everything from that folder.
You will loose all of you Analysis Services data, and you should only do that if you sure you can recover later.

If you are not sure you can get all of your data from backups, you should contact customer support and CSS guys will help you to recover from data corruption without loosing data.

Bizarre - we're getting this same behavior.

It's crashed every morning for the last week at about the same time....3-4AM. We're also on a x64 box, wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Ever figure out what the deal was?

|||

The solution I implemented was to upgrade to the latest SP on AS (I believe it we upgraded to SQL 2000 SP4, and AS SP 4 as well) - (AS Version 8.0.2039). Once we had the latest SPs in place, we proceeded to backup the entire <MSSQL\Microsoft Analysis Services\Data folder containing all the AS databases onto a different location as a fall back position. At this point, (with an empty /data folder) we proceeded to start the AS related services (MSSQLServerOLAPService) and they were steady. I then proceeded to iteratively re-introduce the AS Databases one folder at a time from the previously backed up location (<backuplocation>\MSSQL\Microsoft Analysis Services\Data\<AS databases> until the folder that caused the services to start crashing was identified. Once this folder was identified, I deleted it from the /data folder and process the appropriate dimensions/cubes to regenerate the AS databases. Make sure that your .odb file is backed up safely as an added precaution.

Hi,

I have this exact same problem error but it happens only when the cubes are being processed. In the middle of the dimension and cube processing AS crashes, returns that unexpected fatal error message to the event log, and then restarts. I've scheduled a Job that process the cubes after we load new data to our data mart, so SQL Server Agent is process that runs the job on the cubes. This happens erratically some days, some not.

If the process fails I go to Analysis Manager and reprocess the cubes without problem. I've seen this even happen in Analysis Manager, A first attempt to process fails and crashes the server, and then a second one works. Pretty strange. I have SP4 for both SQL and AS.

If anyone know how to deal with this I'd appreciate your advise.

Thanks,

Ricardo Sada

we eventually opened up a case with MS, and found a resolution.

i wrote about it here: http://jesseorosz.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!E322FD91218E57CF!295.entry

basically it's a problem with the OLAP heap, we switched to use windows low frag and it's worked OK since

Thanks Jesee

I read your post and I see that you are using SQL 2005, in our case we are still working with AS 2000.

May be the cause is similar and some out of Memory problem is the issue.

MSSQLSERVER Service ... just gone

I just attempted to log into an application that uses
SQL. I received the error "Net Service
Configuration" ... "The specified service does not exist
as an installed service."
I'm shocked. Why would this service just disappear?It wouldn't. To ensure it hasn't logon locally to the SQL Server, control
panel, services, MSSQLServer.
I would imagine the error message relates to a different service.

for evidence on what might have happened.

MSSQLServer Express and Delphi application

Dear friends I have a problem with the use of DELPHI and MSSQLServer!

I have installed in a PC a MSSQLServer Express. The PC is connected

with a other via a small network. I have developed an application in DELPHI

which runs also in the two computers. I have regulated SQLServer so as

to is accessible via TCP/IP, make that I tryed after in the other PC I

installed SQL Server Management Studio Express and had access in the

database via the network. While in the beginning both applications

worked normaly and were connected regularly in the base suddenly

one day they couldn't be connected giving as message the following

"DataBase Server Error: SQL State: 08001, SQL Error Code: 17 ", as there was no server. That is to say without I have teased the

properties the access to DataBase was impossible via the application but possible via the SQL

Server Management Studio Express and the environment of Borland Delphi

2005 from both PC's. That is to say

suddenly only the application simply could not be connected. I tryed

a lot of solutions but no one it did not work. When I installed the

MSSQLServer Express in the other PC the application could be connected

from this but no from the other via network always giving the same

message. Has anyone any idea why I am in impasse from solutions!!!!

Thak you in advance!

It is hard to diagnose based on what you describe here. But it could be related to the connection protocols. The following article may help you :

MSSQL2000 jdbc driver on UNIX ...

Hi experts,
I am new in java programming. I am wana to develop an application program
which can access MSSQL2000 under UNIX platform. I downloaded the jdbc
drivers for MSSQL2000 on Microsoft download center (Windows version & UNIX
version). I installed and set up on my machines,Windows 98 and
HPUX,respectively. And then, I do a sample code and try to accesss
MSSQL2000. It is works on Windows platform. But unfortunately, it does work
very well on my UNIX machine, and have an exception as
"com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver".(co mplie pass). I have been
trying many times and can not get rid of this problem. Anyone can give me an
idea to solve it ? Thank you.
F.Y.I:
OS : HPUX10.20
JDK : 1.1.8
The configurlation in .cshrc :
...
set mypath = ( ... )
set hp93kpath = ( ... )
set javapath = ( ... )
set path = ($mypath $hp93kpath $javapath)
setenv classpath
install_dir/lib/msbase.jar:install_dir/lib/msutil.jar:install_dir/lib/mssqls
erver.jar
My sample code ..
import java.io.*;
import java.sql.*;
public class TestDB{
public static void main(String[] args){
try{
String mySQL = "select * from ABC";
Class.forname("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLSer verDriver");
Connection cn =
DrvierManager.getConnection("jdbc:microsoft:sqlser ver://server_name:1433:Dat
abaseName = AAA","guest","guest");
Statement st = cn.createStatement();
resultSet rs = st.executeQuery(mySQL);
:
:
}catch(Exception e){
}finally{
rs.close();
st.clsoe();
cn.close();
}
}
}
Possibly a classpath problem. Do you see the jar's when you do:
shall> set | grep CLASSPATH
Or you could set the jar-CLASSPATH temporarely when you compile and run with
the 'env' shell statement, or on the javac/java command line.

MSSQL to Oracle

hello,

I built my application using SQLClient classes and MSSQL database

i have another version of the database with Oracle, is changing to OracleClient classes the only change i have to do in order to run the program and the connection string?

Thanks

Nope...You also have to install the Oracle client, and give the accountthat your ASP.Net application is running under access to the directorythat the Oracle client is in.

and updating data continously to database. also we have client machines
were we can view these data(these are seperate machines).
we have SQL Server and our application running in seperate machines. SQL

Don't just participate in USENET...get rewarded for it!Look lik you are stucking into a deadlock situation. If so, try to check the
activity in SQL Server EM for Deadlocking. If Deadlocks occur , try to use
another locking method in your programs and scripts, that´ll help.
