multi step OLE DB error

Hi All,

I have a MS Access DB that I have successfully u/graded to SQL Express 2005. I run my code using a recordset as normal, and all connections to the database work fine, but I receive the multi step OLE DB error when it gets to a line trying to populate an address field which has a datatype of nvarchar(max), null. (Field was Memo in Access version before).

This field in SQL2005 has allow nulls.

I've tried to add an empty string " " to the variable before being saved, but this still doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Hi,

could you please provide the code you are using as well as the exact error message ?

Hi,

The exact error message received is:

No. Actually the address field doesn't need to be that large, it will only have 3-4 lines of an address. But I can't work out why this error is happenning?

i have this same problem,

program written in visual basic run properly on access database, but on sql server 2k sp 4 causes errors with

i change provider from mdac to sql native client and now program is running great

yeah, i just check code in vb with SQLOLEDB.1 provider

when it's saves strings to db it generate error

i put trim(cstr(blah blah)) and now it's write correctly to db without multi step error

Multi server administration broken in SQL Server 2005

Hello,
When I try to setup multiserver administration for SQL Server I
always get the error 'The enlist operation failed (reason:
SQLServerAgent Error: Unable to connect to MSX 'my master server name')
(Microsoft SQL Server, Error 22026). I have a fresh installation of the
two instances (the one who must become the master and the one who must
become target. The sql service and sql server agent accounts are a
domain accounts (both servers sit in the same domain) and have full
administrative rights. I have enabled the tcp and named pipes network
library on both sql servers and applied SP1 on both servers.
Frankly I have tried to get this working from the first CTP until now
and never succeed, either I'm doing something wrong our multiserver
administration does not work at all on Sql server 2005.
Has someone managed to get this working on SQL Server 2005 and if so
how did he get it to work.
To be honest this is the third time I ask this question on this
newsgroup but I have never had a reply with a solution, so I'm tempted
to thing that this is broken on SQL Server 2005. If so I have to start
telling my students that this is one thing which does not work (unless
at least someone reports that it is working for him.
Thx.
Marc Mertensconfiguration for tsx/msx is set (by default) to only allow certified
servers. Google search on "msx2005" and /or security. There is a registry
entry you need to change to allow servers w/o certificates in msx/tsx
configuration.

Multi Server Administration (Error Enlist MSX)

With Sql-Server 2000 i am using since a long time the jobserver (MSX) with TSX-servers.

Now I installed Sql-Server 2005 Standard Edition (the same i have tested with developer edition) on NT-2003 SP1.

I have 2 Sql-Server instances installed.

Now i tryed to configure one instance as MSX-Server and the other one as TSX-Server.

No Chance. When i do it with Management-Studio the following error ist displayed:
The enlist operation failed (reason:SqlServerAgent Error: Unable to connect to 'MSX HG-ALV-012\I1'). (Microsoft Sql Server,Error:22026).

In the Agent-log i found after every try the following error-messages:

I don't know what this has to do with certificates? The Configuration for the connections on the server (tcp) is definitely set to "ForceEncrypten=No".

Both Sql Server instances are ruTongue TiedTongue Tiednning under the same Domain-Account. (Also the Agents!)Tongue Tied

Multi Row Insert

According to the CTP3 BOL the following code should work just fine, unfortunately is giving me the error message (below the code):

create table FamilyNames (

Id int identity,

[Name] varchar(30)

);

go

insert into FamilyNames values (

('Andersson'),

('Ben-Gan'),

('Carlsson'),

('Davidsen')

);

Msg 213, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition.

Does anybody know why this code fails?

Hi,

Try

insert into FamilyNames values

('Andersson'),

('Ben-Gan'),

('Carlsson'),

('Davidsen');

Kind regards,

Wesley

multi parameters

Hi,
I want to keyin many values in a parameter textbox, and I try the syntax
like following but it doesn't work, and response the syntax error, why?
SELECT * FROM Product
WHERE (Year = 2003) AND (MonthNumberOfYear IN (" +
Parameters!Month.Value +"))
Is any mistake in my syntax or how should I modify it?
Thanks!
AngiAngi,
I presume your query string is actually
="SELECT * FROM Product" +
"WHERE (Year = 2003) AND (MonthNumberOfYear IN (" +
Parameters!Month.Value + "))"
and that you enter values into the parameter field seperated by commas, i.e. 10,11,12
Then it should work. If you still have a problem, try using & instead of + for concatenation.

Second, this Syntax doesn't work in DataSet, so this syntax is wrote in
Dataset SQL dialog or StoreProcedure?
Third, my situation like following..
If I type ="Select.... Month.Value + "))" in Dataset Query dialog, the
Excute function be disable, and in Preview, there is an error msg "syntax
error near '=' "

Thank you very much!
I know what's the problem with my syntax, I break(use Enter) the syntax, so
when I preview the Report appears syntax error!
With "int" data type, we can enter data value 1,2,5 directly, and I change
to "char" data type, the value must be write as '1','2','5'
Any convenience way to enter "char" value?
And I'm not VB programmer and the newbie of RS, but if there is any chance
to learn, I must to be learning more.
Thanks for your time and your kind. :)

The only way to make the entry of strings easier for the end user is to try and put the quotes in for them, when you build the SQL string.
Say the WHERE part of your SQL looks like this;
"WHERE Item IN (" + Parameters!Item.Value + ")"
Add a single quote before and after the parameter, and replace any commas with a comma surrounded by single quotes like this;
"WHERE Item IN ('" + Replace(Parameters!Item.Value, ",", "','") + "')"
Note where the single quotes are!
This would convert an entry of 1,2,3 into '1','2','3'
Just watch out for spaces around the commas, that may stop the where clause working properly. You can get round this but that will require more code.

Has anyone encountered this error? I get it when I run the installer (c#). I have seen a few posts on google and msdn, but still can't get past the error. I have tried uninstall/resinstalling the parser, registering from the command line, setting the property of the interop to "donotregister" and others with no luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
LeeOK got past the installation - but the package shows to fire but doesn't. Might be permissions; I am going to try and point the SSIS package to a local set of folders.

I think the problem was the "donotregister" property of the .dll. The SSIS tools, as you know, must be installed on your local workstation as well.

Oh well.

Still at the same place. I created another ssis package and pointed it to the local folders and ran via a console app and it works fine. Most likely permissions. Someone suggested turning logging on the package. Not sure which logging they were referring to.

Thanks,

MSX/TSX question between SQL 2000 and 2005

Hi,
I have a SQL Server 2005 as a master server, I want to make a SQL Server
2000 default instance a target server, but it failed and the error message i

version 8.00.818'. Can we have a SQL 2000 server as a target server when we
have a SQL 2005 as a master server? If so, how?
Thanks for your help.So far i have not seen any documentation on mingling 2k and 2k5 MSX and
TSX services. I believe you would have to have both instances running
on the MSX server and have 2 complete MSX db's running.

MSSQLSeverADHelper

When trying to add the SQL server to the Windows 2000
Active Directory I get the following error
Error 14354: Cannot start the MSSQLSeverADHelper
Service. Verify that the service account for this SQL
Server instance has the necessary permissions to start
the MSSQLSeverADHelper service. Is the service on the machine? If not, something probably
went wrong with the install where some registry keys are
missing - reinstalling is the cleanest option in this case.
Otherwise check the service account for SQL Server to make
sure it has the appropriate permissions.

MSSQLServerOLAPService Stops

MSSQLServerOLAPService Service seems to crash rather sporadically during our nightly ETL with the error of:

The description for Event ID ( 22 ) in Source ( MSSQLServerOLAPService ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Internal error: An unexpected exception occured. Internal error: An unexpected exception occured..

The time of the error in the event viewer seems to correspond with the step in the ETL that processes our AS 2005 database (Analysis Services Command Task). The job step reports success, and the data is refreshed so I don't understand why it is reporting an error in Event Viewer.

The server is x86 with SQL 2005 sp2 installed.

Has anyone else run across this?

I'm getting the same issue when I run a particular MDX query. I'm also on x86 with SQL 2005 sp2 installed. Please post if you find anything out.

Thanks,

Craig

MSSQLServerADHelper Service Error on Reboot

I am running SQL Server 2000 sp 4 on Win2K Server sp 4.
Recently, I started getting an MSSQLServerADHelper service error. I can't
rely pin it on anything, other than I had a big database with 2 tables (7 and

get the following errors. The MSSQLServerADHelper is set to automatic, which
I believe is the correct state since is supposedly launched as needed. I

MSSQLServerADHelper

MSSQLServerADHelper failed to start with error code
1073741724 on the initial error message box. When going
into event viewer the error code for the failed service
is 3221225572.
I have tried restarting the service and restarting the
server but it still fails, I have also tried starting the
service with the Admin account.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
ThanksHello,
Theres something it doesn't like about the account. See
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;273499.
Try deleing then recreating it.
