Multi Server Administration

Hi,
We are about to implement MSX across our servers, we have some 400 SQL
Servers. What is the recommended number of master servers in sites as big as
this? Is there a maximum (recommended) number of target servers you can have
per master server?
Thanks
Julian
There is no hard recommended number that I know of. But before you
implement that you may want to check out SQL Sentry at
http://www.sqlsentry.net/ first. It can save you a LOT of headaches with
trying to monitor that many servers.

It's similar to Query Analyzer, except that you can select as many servers
as you like to execute against. There's a freeware version too. Check out

msx-tsx restore...

hi
SQLServer 2000 sp3 having master-target relationship. I want to change the
master server to another system.how can i replace this master server without
affecting target relations? any help , appreciated.
BOL says:
Each target server reports to only one master server. You must defect a
target server from one master before you can enlist it into a different one.

the master and msdb on other system and continue the msx-tsx relationship?

MSX/TSX question between SQL 2000 and 2005

Hi,
I have a SQL Server 2005 as a master server, I want to make a SQL Server
2000 default instance a target server, but it failed and the error message i

r
version 8.00.818'. Can we have a SQL 2000 server as a target server when we
have a SQL 2005 as a master server? If so, how?
Thanks for your help.So far i have not seen any documentation on mingling 2k and 2k5 MSX and
TSX services. I believe you would have to have both instances running
on the MSX server and have 2 complete MSX db's running.

MSX server in SQL 2005

I currently have a master server in SQL2000 and I have now have a couple of
new SQL2005 installs on different servers. I wish to make these new servers
target servers. So my question is - can a Master SQL2000 sever, target a
SQL2005 server?
Thanks
WendyWendy
Did you discover anything on this?
I'm in a similar situation where we'll probably have a mixture of SQL 2005
and SQL 2000 server due to vendors not upgrading to SQL 2005.
Would dearly love to know if there is any compatibility between versions for
the MSX/TSX setup.
Thanks

I did not get any reponses but I found this article, so it looks like you
cannot setup a SQL2000 as a master server to connect to SQL2005 target
servers. Something we are considering is installing a named instance of
SQL2005 on our SQL2000 master server, to create a MSX 2005 server. Havent
tried it yet though!

I've tried setting up a SQL 2005 MSX but get version errors when I try and
enlist SQL 2000 TSX's
