Personally MSX is really bad in RTM and SP1. a huge number of fixes are in

running sQL enterprise additions. I would like to understand why the
processing load is not distrubuted evenly. The second and third processors
seem to have most of the utilization.
I assume that you have configured SQL Server to use all processors via
sp_configure and the affinity mask. SQL Server will split and distribute
the query load as it sees fit. You might not end up with a perfect
distribution of processor utilization.

|||There can be several reasons. First, all threads do not require the same
amount of processor resource so there will always be some imbalance.
Second, Windows binds physical processors to service particular IO cards, so
your NIC and Disk subsystems are likely bound to the second and third
processors. On very-multi-processor systems (16-way and up) excluding
certain processors from SQL because of this OS binding can improve
performance. On a four-way box, you are best to leave things as is.

multi instances of sql server
if I have 3 instances of sql server 2000 on a machine, how to use Enterprise
Manager - sql query analyzer to get a list of them all (name, current status,
the databases under each of them)? or have to use some other tool to do it?
thank you very much!
As I gather they are not showing up, check to see if these instances are
using TCP/IP or NAMED PIPES. [Start Programs - Microsoft SQL Server - SERVER
NETWORK UTILITY]. They may not show in the active directory - or at least
not allow connections - if one of these two protocols is not enabled.

Multable database on one machine
The company i just started working for has SQL 2000 installed on four
machines. Is there any info i can get about putting all database on one
machine, Then having an application server running the apps (Great Plains
7.5, Sharepoint, track-it, and a custom made database)
Thanks
LeeYes, you can have multiple databases on the same machine, and on the same
instance of SQL Server. Your limitations are: (a) two databases can't have
the same name, or expect their data/log files to have the same path, and (b)
the available resources on the server. If it's a low-powered box it may
perform acceptably hosting one application's database
As for the right way to perform the consolidation, if you are comfortable
that it is the right move, there are several options. Andrew Kelly has
posted this list of KB articles that should help you out:

Actually I'm sitting with Geoff at PASS and he said that, unfortunately, he

My most heavly used database is on a dual 1GHz intel with 2GB of RAM. The

Multable database on one machine
The company i just started working for has SQL 2000 installed on four
machines. Is there any info i can get about putting all database on one
machine, Then having an application server running the apps (Great Plains
7.5, Sharepoint, track-it, and a custom made database)
Thanks
Lee
Yes, you can have multiple databases on the same machine, and on the same
instance of SQL Server.

MSSQLSERVER service isnt starting
I need to move data from SQL Server7 to SQLServer2000 that is installed on a different machine.
Could anybody please advise a good way to do that?
I've installed SQLServer7 on a new machine, stopped MSSQLSERVER service ,started SQLServer in a single user mode (using sqlservr.exe from Command Prompt),successfully restored master db from the backup. When I tried ro start MSSQLSERVER service via Services console, get message "Could not start the MSSQLSERVER service on Local Computer. The service did not return an error. This could be an internal Windows error or an internal service error." I have Windows 2000 server.

MSSQLSERVER not showing in Services
We just installed SQL Server 2K on a user machine. For some reason,
MSSQLSERVER and SQLSERVERAGENT is not showing in Services. We use Services
to update the logon password when we change our NT password. First, what do
we need to do to get MSSQLSERVER to show in Services and is there another
way to update the logon password?
Thanks in advance,

Perhaps you installed it as a Named instance instead of a default instance. In that case, the
service name is MSSQL$InstanceName.

MSSQLSERVER and SQLExpress coexist?
i had sqlserver2000 (including the enterprise manager and desktop engine) and .net 2003 installed in my development machine, I developed a vb.net application that communicates with a locally hosted mssql db.
recently i had .net 2005 and MS Server 2005 installed, then I converted my application in .net 2005, after, I started having problem deploying the application and db together to client machine and even on my own development machine, it's all database communication sort of problems. (now i have SQL Server Management Studio Express CTP installed)
Did i make any mistake? should i uninstall sqlserver2000, .net 2003 before installing server2005 and .net 2005?
btw, in my explorer, C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server, i have 5 subfolders: "80", "90", "MSSQL", "MSSQL.1" and "MSSQL$SETUPTESTAPPINS". i know that 80 and MSSQL are the folders for server2000, 90 and MSSQL.1 are probably server2005 folders. but what is "MSSQL$SETUPTESTAPPINS"? from the readme.txt i found it's related to server2000, but what is it about?
also, in my registry, HKEY_Local_Machine/Software/Microsoft/Microsoft SQL Server/, the value of "InstalledInstances" is MSSQL SETUP TESTAPPINS SQLEXPRESS, after i removed SQLServer2000 stuff, the key value became "SETUP TESTAPPINS SQLEXPRESS", Now i dont have server2000 in my system anymore, how come SETUP TESTAPPIN is still there?
sorry for my bad explanation, plz help
This question might be better answered in the Setup forum, but from what I can gather from your statements, I don't think you did anything wrong. SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 will coexist on a single machine, as will the .NET versions. That may be where your issue is.
If you can post the specific errors you're seeing, that might a better place to start.

Try to name it without slash. I doubt though it'll help. I once experienced a very funny problem with my replication whereby the distributor wouldn't connect to the subscriber. I had to enable Naming Pipes on the subscriber via the SQL config console to fix it. Just a thought.|||Tried the name pipes didn;t help. Don;t think I can rename it as the machine is called server which is where that comes from shoulf just be server2003 to connect. Going to move this db to a different machine and not worry about it anymore. Chalk it up to a 2005 quirk I think.|||Thanx for your help anyway.|||Good luck to you. Sorry couldn't help you better. Try to search in MSDN troubleshooting articles.|||I had to change the port for the mssql8 version to get it to work.
